Hazelbank Shooting Ground REVIEW

Hazelbank Shooting Ground is located near Knaresborough in North Yorkshire and Is the winner of best local shooting ground in the North of England for the last two years. This in fact is my local shooting ground and the place that got me in to shooting in the first place, it is a gem!

The ground is run by Mark Lawson and is open to both the Public and to corporate guests. It offers a small club house with a simple yet welcoming feel. Bacon sandwiches and snacks are available along with plenty of seating and a panoramic window over looking the whole ground. The main stand out feature of this Ground is the welcome you receive and the friendliness from not only the staff but all the others members who are always on hand to help out.

On a standard day hazelbank offers Down the line (DTL) and English sporting (50 bird) along with sporttrap and other disciplines depending on availability and how busy it is. The traps are changed weekly so there is always a fresh challenge and something new to try.

There is a corporate area offering stag and hen parties, or indeed corporate parties the chance to try their hand at shooting with professional coaching. Most weekends this stand is in use and there are a number of groups in attendance on experience days. It is great to see new people there who may become fans of the sport and join the community.

Opening times are by appointment only Monday to Friday, 12:30-16:00 Saturday and 10:00-13:00 on a Sunday. It is also priced very reasonably at around £5.50 per box of 25 cartridges and about £12 per round of 50 sporting.

Mark also offers a variety of other days out at simulated game days on the Birdsall Estate which are well worth a visit! It is a great little ground which packs a punch and offers great variety, warm hosts, friendly members and some excellent shooting.

It is also worth mentioning that Hazelbank infact sponsor and run the clay line at the Northern Shooting Show, again run by Mark Lawson who does a fabulous job.
