We are less than five months away now from the annual Northern Shooting Show 2019! #NSS19

As I write this there is only one week until Christmas, but I am looking forward to NSS19 way more than a visit from Santa. I have been to the Northern Shooting Show for the last two years and it is now a main highlight in my calendar. The NSS is held at the Yorkshire Event Centre in Harrogate in May and is now in its fourth year. It offers fantastic access to enthusiasts from across the country with a great central location and easy access by rail, air and road! The venue is geographically right at the centre of the UK on the outskirts of the beautiful city of Harrogate. There is a strong emphasis on outdoor shooting activities and demonstrations over the weekend with many areas to 'have a go' or 'try before you buy'.

So what can you expect from the highly anticipated Northern Shooting Show?

This event truly jam packs everything you could imagine in to one weekend and gives you the opportunity to shop, eat and shoot. Due to the great location you have the gun makers hall and some excellent shopping but equally important are the great outdoor attractions such as Europe's longest clay line and the manufacturers demo area where you can try out the latest range of guns from the likes of Browning or Blaser. You can find fantastic exhibitors from the likes of Viking Arms, Premier Guns, Gilsan Sports, BASC, Aimcam, GMK, Cannae ProGear, Croots, Custom Fit Guards, Eley, Longthorne, Nitesite, Raytrade, RUAG, Sako, Swarovski, Tikka..... the list goes on!!! Can you tell why I look forward to this event yet?

The event is spread over several large indoor halls where thousands of firearms new and used are on display and for sale. Not to mention the countless clothing outfitters, accessories, food and drinks stalls that are available as well. This is truly a one stop shop for the shooting enthusiast!

A number of local police forces are also in attendance on the day giving advice to those wishing to apply for a section 1 or section 2 license as well as carrying out interviews and even issuing grants on the day. I actually got issued my first shotgun certificate at the show a couple of years ago and then had the opportunity to buy my very first shotgun at the show and even shoot it on the day at the clay line!

Outdoors you will find more stalls selling everything from Quad bikes to walking sticks and exhibitors demonstrating how to cook fresh game meat or cooking up fantastic venison kebabs. Over the weekend the Northern Shooting Show plays host to Europe's largest clay line hosted by the award winning Hazel Bank Shooting Ground. This takes the form of a Northern 50 Bird Sporting Championship with the chance of winning a new Browning 525 Sporter plus various other prizes for the runners up. BASC will also be on hand offering lessons and coaching for novices and the experienced shots alike. There is also the NTSA Steel plate challenge, airgun range, and the popular double deuce .22 live rim-fire range. There is truly something for everyone...

A couple of the leading manufacturers are in attendance on the range as well, offering you the chance to take some shots with their latest product lines for free and 'try before you buy'. This is a great opportunity to speak with the manufacturers directly and ask all those questions you have on the latest shotgun. Last year I had the opportunity to shoot some clays with the Browning Maxus and have a look at the latest range of sporting shotguns. You can even see me trying out the Maxus in the video at the bottom of this page (2m49s)

I have been to a couple of different shooting shows but I can hand on heart say this is by far my favourite shooting show of the year. The British Shooting Show is great but it lacks the outdoor element and the chance to dust some clays which is something the Northern shooting Show has done very well. NSS is a shooting show organised by shooters, for shooters. Everything has been thought out very well and you can tell this is the concept of someone who understands what shooters want and what makes a fantastic annual attraction. I wouldn't expect it any other way though, us Northerners know how to do things properly :)

The show is open Saturday 11th May to Sunday 12th May 2019 with gates opening at 8:30am till 4:30pm Saturday and 09:00am till 3:30pm Sunday. Tickets are already on sale at £12 for an adult or £15 on the day. Dogs are allowed to the show but unfortunately not in to the gunmakers hall.

I will be doing a full review packed with loads of photos from the NSS19 show after the weekend in May and I hope to see you all there over the weekend. If you see me pottering around come and say hello, it is always great talking to you all and meeting you! We are a great community and it is always nice meeting like minded people who share such a great passion. I cant recommend this show highly enough and even if you are not local to the area it is well worth the drive, this has quickly grown in to a leading national event that is hotly anticipated in the shooting community.
