Following my recent review of the Sherwood Forest Gadwall jacket and trouser collection I have recently got my hands on the latest release from the Nottingham based outdoor clothing company.
I was extremely impressed with the Gadwall jacket and for the last few months has been my go to item for dog walks and days shooting. I was sure the new Hardwick collection would be nice but not overly convinced it would make me hang up the Gadwall in a hurry. However, I have been pleasantly surprised yet again from the 40 year old clothing manufacturer.
The Sherwood Forest Hardwick jacket is a lightweight and breathable hunting jacket made from polyester which is combined with 5k series ISOFLUX® membrane ensuring the jacket is waterproof and breathable. It is a very lightweight jacket. Where my Gadwall may be suitable for the bitter frosty mornings of winter sat in the pigeon hide, from what I have seen of the Hardwick jacket so far, it is a fantastic bridge jacket for those spring through to autumn months where you want lightweight, waterproof and warm without the bulk of a big winter jacket. I have not had the weather to find out yet, but this jacket holds in the heat so well I think I may be deceived by its lightweight finish and it would hold up very well on the colder winter days too.
I have found movement in the jacket to be extremely easy especially when out shooting and I just like the look of it. I like a shooting jacket that looks like a 'shooting' jacket so it's nice to see the shoulder pads and large pockets to fit ample amounts of cartridges in. The two large bellowed cartridge pockets also come with inserts to hold a number of cartridges and bullets which is a great feature but I do find they somewhat get in the way from time to time. I may have preferred if these were removable as an option. But that being said they are a useful feature. The Hardwick jacket also comes up as a smaller fit than my Gadwall jacket, where my Gadwall is size XS the Hardwick is size S. Both fit more than comfortably but worth noting for size just incase.
The Hardwick jacket comes with all the accessories found on some of the other ranges, including; large game pocket, detachable poachers pocket, sleeve pocket with orange signal band, hand warmer pockets, large cartridge pockets, additional cartridge holders and a removable hood etc.
In the collection are also the Hardwick trousers from Sherwood forest which have an arched rear waist panel for additional protection. Again, they are Lightweight and breathable hunting trousers made from polyester which is combined with the same 5k series ISOFLUX® membrane ensuring these trousers are waterproof and breathable. The Hardwick trousers offer many features which include upper zipped pockets to secure valuables, large bellowed thigh pockets and arched waist panel for additional protection.
The whole collection, jacket and trousers, are available in both male and female fit.
The jacket price comes in at around £99.95 and the trousers at around £59.95 making this a great affordable option for the shooter, beater or outdoor enthusiast who doesn't want to break the bank. You will still get reliable, warm, breathable clothing that looks the part. Another big well done to Sherwood Forest with this collection. I absolutely love the jacket and trousers and really dont think you can beat the value for money. I look forward to much more wear out of this jacket in years to come!
